Rapper A$AP Rocky is on the verge of completing a takeover of English football club Tranmere Rovers following his recent acquittal in an assault case.

A Los Angeles jury found Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Athelston Mayers, not guilty of two felony counts of assault related to a 2021 altercation involving a semi-automatic weapon in Hollywood. The verdict, delivered on Tuesday, clears the path for the rapper’s involvement in the acquisition of the League Two club.

According to Sky Sports, A$AP Rocky will be part of a consortium finalizing a deal to purchase Tranmere Rovers from current owner Mark Palios. The transaction, valued at approximately £15 million, has reportedly been in development for nearly a year.

The proposed deal will see the consortium acquire an 80% stake in the club, while Indonesian investors, Santini Group, will retain their minority share and remain involved at Prenton Park.

A$AP Rocky, who shares two children with global music icon Rihanna, has not yet publicly commented on the acquisition. However, his involvement in football club ownership signals a growing trend of celebrities and musicians investing in the sport.

More updates on the takeover are expected in the coming weeks as negotiations reach their final stages.
