CP Baba Azare commends police for rescuing kidnap victims in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State commissioner of police, Baba Azare, has commended operatives of the command for rescuing kidnap victims and recovering one Lexus RX 350 SUV.
A statement issued by the command spokesperson, Timfon John, said the victim was rescued during a tactical operation in Ikot Ekpene local government area.
Ms John, a deputy superintendent of police, said operatives of the command based on credible intelligence immediately swung into action and engaged the kidnappers in a superior gun duel.
She said after being overwhelmed by superior firepower, the kidnappers fled with severe gunshot injuries, but the victim was left unharmed.
According to her, the operation is part of a sustained effort to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents.
“On February 13, 2025, based on a report that a man (name withheld) was kidnapped along Okop Eto Road and taken to an unknown destination by the kidnappers.
“Operatives of the command based on credible intelligence immediately swung into action, engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel. The hoodlums, overwhelmed by superior firepower, fled with severe gunshot injuries, leaving the victim unharmed.
“The victim was rescued unhurt, his vehicle recovered and has since been reunited with his family,” the statement partly reads.
The police spokesperson said efforts are in top gear to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
She added that investigations are ongoing to recover weapons used in the crime and bring those responsible to justice.
“The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, commended the officers for their swift response and assured residents that the Command remains resolute in its fight against criminal elements in the state. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station,” the statement added.
