N74trn Proposed For 2025 Poverty Alleviation Budget

The Federal Government and 35 States have proposed a whopping N74.249 trillion budget for 2025 to alleviate poverty and improve the fortunes of citizens.
This figure could potentially increase by the end of 2025, as the proposals are yet to be passed by the legislature, and supplementary appropriations are likely.
According to Vanguard’s analysis of the various budgets, the proposed allocation consists of N35.676 trillion for capital projects, representing 48.05% of the total budget, while N38.573 trillion is allocated for recurrent expenditures, accounting for 51.95%.
Most States, except Ekiti, Osun, and the Federal Government, allocated more funds to capital expenditure.

Lagos State has the highest proposed budget of N3.005 trillion, followed by Niger with N1.5 trillion, Ogun with N1.0545 trillion, Delta with N979.2 billion, Enugu with N971.8 billion, and Akwa Ibom with N955 billion.
On the other hand, Gombe, Yobe, Ekiti, Nasarawa, and Ebonyi are the least spenders, with proposed budgets of N320.11 billion, N320.811 billion, N375.79 billion, N382.57 billion, and N396.59 billion, respectively.
The South-West zone has the highest allocation with N6.202 trillion, while the North-East zone has the lowest with N2.610 trillion.
Notably, Lagos’ budget surpasses the combined budgets of the six North-East states and is about N476 billion less than the combined budgets of the five South-East states.
