President Cyril Ramaphosa’s intervention in Mozambique has been welcomed by many in the country.

South Africa as a neighbour has taken the initiative to engage stakeholders in Mozambique on the current political and security situation in the country.

The President assigned his envoy Dr Sydney Mufamadi to travel to Mozambique and meet with outgoing President Filipe Nyusi.

While Nyusi is adamant that the situation is under control, a lot of damage has been done since the start of the protests.

This includes the destruction of government infrastructure,  burning down of some Frelimo offices, looting and burning of businesses and the obstruction of the aviation industry.

However, the leader of the new official opposition Venancio Mondlane has announced that the protests will resume on Monday in the main cities.
