Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has refuted claims that he has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a post on his verified X account on Sunday, El-Rufai described the rumours as ‘patent lies’ and urged Nigerians to disregard them.

He further disclosed that legal action has been initiated against individuals propagating the misinformation.

He tweeted, “Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers.”

El-Rufai, a founding member of the ruling APC, served as the Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. He previously held the position of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2003 to 2007.

Meanwhile, the former governor was among the first list of 28 ministerial nominees sent to the National Assembly by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023. However, the Senate withheld his confirmation and he was later replaced in October when the President sent the name of Abbas Balarabe from Kaduna to the Senate for confirmation.
