Lagos – Dr. Osahon Enabulele, former President of the World Medical Association (WMA) and current Director General of the Dr. Osahon Enabulele Foundation (DOEF), urged Nigerians to approach 2025 with renewed confidence and a strong belief in their ability to overcome the nation’s numerous challenges.
Enabulele’s call was contained in his New Year message, in which he acknowledged the difficulties that lie ahead as Nigerians embark on their journey into the New Year.
According to him, Nigerians would inevitably grapple with pressing issues such as hunger, suffering, and a sense of alienation as they start their journey into the New Year.
He highlighted the importance of addressing the erosion of moral values and the pervasive feelings of hopelessness and despondency that many may experience. His message serves as a rallying cry for unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
In an optimistic tone, the former President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) said that he is, however, happy to note that Nigerians are known for their resilience against adversities. This attribute will serve them well in 2025.
His statement partly reads, “We must joggle in our minds the options we have as a people. We can either submit to those despairing and existential living, or, as the great Nigerians that we are, rise to Repair! If Nigeria puts us where we are, it is we, Nigerians, that must get us out of it and take us to where we want to go.”
The DOEF Director General revealed that the Foundation has decided to kickstart the year with a national colloquium on Nigeria and the leadership question, which will specifically commence on January 29 in Benin City. The colloquium will cover topics such as how to manage elections and the recruitment of leaders, as well as how Nigerians can have their health rights and universal access to healthcare fulfilled.
Enabulele said that the God-given potential, along with the human and material resources that abound in the country, must be harnessed in deliberately coordinated ways to impact lives in the nation positively.
The statement also reads, “Natural wisdom must now prevail on us to discern that now is the time for action! Bye-bye to the year of lamentations and welcome to 2025, the year of expectations, progressive steps, and positive action.
“This is the time to rebuild Nigeria; to return to the values and ethos that guarantee integrity, honesty, a sense of responsibility, and commitment to ideals.
“We recognize that it is only from such an algorithm that we can produce genuine leadership and good governance in Nigeria.”
Enabulele urged Nigerians to think about the potential result of substituting their lamentations for real-time, deliberate effort at recalibrating their immediate community for good in the New Year.
