Mohamed Salah Considers MLS Move Amidst Saudi Interest, European Clubs Active in Transfer Market

Mohamed Salah, the 34-year-old former Liverpool forward, may be pricing himself out of a move to the Saudi Pro League due to his financial demands. Clubs are reportedly hesitant to meet these demands. Despite interest from Saudi clubs, Salah is also considering options in Major League Soccer (MLS), with Sporting Kansas City emerging as a potential suitor.
Sources indicate that Salah prefers to remain in Europe, but he remains open to a move to MLS. Sporting Kansas City‘s new majority owner, Peter Mallouk, whose parents are Egyptian immigrants, is reportedly keen on bringing the Egyptian star to the club. This interest comes after Salah and Egypt were eliminated from the World Cup just three days ago.
European Transfer Market Activity
In other transfer news, Bayern Munich has informed Real Madrid that their France forward, Michael Olise, is not available for transfer this summer. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund and Germany attacker Karim Adeyemi, 24, is reportedly set to join Barcelona.
Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly in a transfer battle for 25-year-old RB Leipzig and Netherlands defender Lutsharel Geertruida, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland. Manchester City and Tottenham are reportedly interested in Portuguese winger Francisco Trincao, and could potentially intervene in his move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli from Sporting.
Barcelona is reportedly preparing to intensify their pursuit of Atletico Madrid and Argentina forward Julian Alvarez, 26, following this summer’s World Cup. Hull City has reportedly submitted a bid for Mjallby midfielder and Swedish World Cup star Elliot Stroud, 24.
Midfield and Defensive Targets
Manchester United is exploring options to sign additional midfielders after completing a deal for 22-year-old Chelsea and Brazil international Andrey Santos. Greece centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos, 28, is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs and other European teams after his performance at relegated West Ham.
Como is reportedly hoping to sign 30-year-old Colombia defender Davison Sanchez, but Galatasaray‘s asking price could be a deterrent. Manchester United is also seeking a goalkeeper to compete with 24-year-old Belgian Senne Lammens, and may consider 26-year-old Paraguay international Orlando Gill from Argentine side San Lorenzo.
Newcastle United‘s prospects of acquiring 23-year-old England goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City have reportedly improved, as Aston Villa is keen to retain their 33-year-old Argentine number one, Emiliano Martinez. However, Chelsea is also reportedly interested in Trafford.
New Benfica boss Marco Silva is reportedly looking to sign his former Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, 31, and a bid is reportedly being prepared to bring the Portugal international from Bayern Munich following his loan at Tottenham last season.
Sporting Kansas City’s Ambitious Plans
Sporting Kansas City is pursuing other significant transfers this summer, aiming to increase spending and ambition. The team is reportedly working on potential deals for Toulouse winger Yann Gboho, 25, and Olympiacos winger Andre Luiz, 24. Negotiations for Luiz are reportedly more advanced than for Gboho.
Luiz joined Olympiakos in January and had seven goals and six assists in the first half of last season in Portugal with Rio Ave FC. Gboho, a former France youth international, concluded his season with ten goals and three assists in 35 appearances across all competitions. He declared in March his intention to represent Ivory Coast.
Sporting Kansas City is in a transitional season, with Rapha Wicky named head coach this winter. The team currently sits at the bottom of the Western Conference with 11 points after 14 matches.
