February 27, (THEWILL) – Bendel Insurance defeated Ikorodu City 2-1 in a Nigeria Premier Football League match at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Thursday.

The result represented a turnaround for the home team, who had previously lost 3-0 to Ikorodu City in October last year.

Stanley Okoroma opened the scoring for Bendel Insurance in the 52nd minute, giving the hosts the advantage in the second half.

The lead proved short-lived as Ikorodu City equalised just two minutes later through Shola Adelani, bringing the score to 1-1.

The deadlock was broken in the 69th minute when Uche Collins found the net, scoring what would be the winning goal for Bendel Insurance.

The home side maintained their advantage until the final whistle, completing their revenge for the earlier defeat.

The victory has improved Bendel Insurance’s position in the NPFL table, moving them up to 11th place under the management of coach Greg Ikhenoba.

Despite the loss, Ikorodu City remain in 7th position, continuing to perform well in what is their first season in the premier division.

The 3-nil loss to the Lagos outfit last October had placed significant pressure on Bendel Insurance, making this February victory particularly important for their campaign.

Ikhenoba’s charges will look to build on this result in their next match, while Ikorodu City will aim to recover from the setback and continue their impressive debut in the NPFL.
