Rivers United defender ThankGod Ikeagwu made a crucial goal-line clearance in the 44th minute to deny Remo Stars from taking the lead.

The visiting team also failed to capitalise on an early second-half chance as the home defence remained resolute throughout the encounter.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 84th minute when Rivers United executed a well-crafted move that resulted in the match-winning goal from the boots of David Sholumade.

This late strike proved sufficient to collect all three points from the top-of-the-table clash.

This marked the first time Remo Stars failed to score against Rivers United in an away fixture in NPFL history.

With only two minutes of additional time played, Remo Stars could not find an equaliser against a determined Rivers United side.

The result leaves Remo Stars at the summit of the league table with 60 points from 31 matches. While Rivers United have played one game more than Remo, they strengthened their second position with 55 points, making the title race increasingly competitive as the season end approaches.

The outcome of this fixture carries significant implications for the remainder of the NPFL season, with both teams still having matches to play.

Rivers United will look to maintain momentum in their pursuit of the leaders, while Remo Stars must make up for this loss with their match in hand and defend their position at the top of the standings in what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the Nigerian football season.
