February 20, (THEWILL) – Jiri Lehecka produced an impressive performance to defeat top seed, Carlos Alcaraz, 6-3 3-6 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open on Thursday. The Czech world number 25 halted the Spanish star’s seven-match winning streak that began with Alcaraz’s triumph in Rotterdam earlier this month.

The match witnessed momentum shifts throughout, with Lehecka claiming the opening set before Alcaraz levelled the contest. Despite the Spaniard establishing a break advantage in the decisive set, Lehecka showed remarkable composure to win the final four games and seal his victory.

“I feel great,” Lehecka stated after the match. “To win a match like that against a player like this is a super big achievement. I believed in myself and knew I had the level to produce this kind of tennis.”

The Czech will face either British eighth seed Jack Draper or Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in Friday’s semi-final, reaching the final four in Doha for the second time in his career.

The tournament has witnessed significant upsets, with Berrettini having previously eliminated Novak Djokovic in the second round. The Italian former Wimbledon finalist will look to continue his resurgence when he competes for a semi-final place.
